We live in a world where the beauty of mathematics shines everywhere. We see symmetry in a honeycomb or a spiderweb. The importance of mathematics is not only crucial for scientists or engineers, but it essential for every person. It empowers people have a better way of understanding or interpreting information. Mathematics plays an effective role in developing skills such as analyzing data, seeking evidence, recognizing patterns every day, etc.

Mathematics prepare students for the reality, to become great problem solvers and decision makers with logical thinking skills.

Likewise, all developed countries, The Sultanate of Oman is aware of the importance of mathematics and its role in sustainable development. In 2011, Oman Mathematics Committee (OMC) was formed by a decision of the Council of Ministers. OMC ever since worked on encouraging the scientific and educational movement in the field of mathematics within the Oman. In addition, OMC focused on strengthening the association with relevant international committees and associations - especially the International Mathematics Union (IMU). In 2018, OMC submitted an elaborate report to the IMU upon which The Sultanate of Oman became a full member of the IMU.

Vision: To be a leading reference for the various fields of mathematics locally and internationally.

Mission: To support the teaching and learning of mathematics at various levels and to promote scientific research and also empowering mathematics teachers.

Research – Strengthening a conducive environment for research and its dissemination.

Teaching and Learning – Enhancing a supportive environment for teaching and learning mathematics at various stages.

Technology – Promoting the use of technology in mathematics and its applications

Community Awareness - Activating the role of the committee and community partnerships to raise awareness of the importance of mathematics.

2. To Enhancing knowledge in various branches of mathematics and clarifying its applications in various other branches of science.

3. To raise the awareness of society and parents about the importance of mathematics in early childhood.

4. To support the active teaching and learning of mathematics in schools and universities with the use of technology.
