We are excited to welcome you to the Sustainable Energy Research Center (SERC) Website. Today, there is a great incentive for Oman to exploit renewable energy in order to face the challenges inherent in the changing environment and to remain prepared for future trends. Moreover, there is huge potential for demand-side management and energy conservation which should be exploited for the benefit of the country and the environment. Energy is a crucial component of any nation’s security, economy, and stability. Oman faces major energy challenges in the coming decades as conventional fossil fuel resources decline and its young population continues to grow rapidly, combined with increasing energy demand from the industrial sector. The Sustainable Energy Research Center will coordinate the efforts of SQU’s scientists and academics working in different areas of energy production and utilization in order to create strong cooperation with industry and government institutions. The SERC will bring together economists, political and social scientists, and engineers to do research in the areas of energy production, renewable energy sources, energy policy, energy efficiency and management, energy conversion, integrated power systems, and high voltage. Our dream is for our researchers to have the opportunity to contribute and accelerate these developments through the targeted, strategic, and innovative research contributions they are making to society. The center is intended to act as the focal point under which the university’s research efforts in energy are brought together and augmented for greater efficiency and productivity. It is also intended for unifying individual efforts in sustainable energy, including renewable energy, production, transformation, usage, efficiency, coordination, and management systems of alternative and renewable energy. The center will help solidify the presence of the university regionally and internationally in the fields of sustainable energy. On a national scale, the SERC will be an active and outstanding house of expertise in energy in the sultanate. The SERC website aims to disseminate information to existing and potential researchers, stakeholders, and community members. The website contains current information on SERC’s expertise, activities, and services which I hope users will find useful.
