Program Overview
Coursework and Thesis
8 Credits hours of course work in addition to research leading to a thesis (6credit hours). The student should complete the course work requirements specified in the degree plan with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. For the thesis, the candidate is required to conduct the necessary literature review, undertake the research, analyze the results, write the report and communicate the results at an oral defiance. This work need not necessarily be original research, but should be a new application of ideas. The student should identify the research problem in consultation with the supervisor, which normally takes place in the last of coursework semester. The student should register for the thesis in the third semester after having completed at least 12 credits of the course work.
Thesis
The student who studies a master’s by thesis should select relevant to the archaeology of Oman to be the thesis topic also the topic thesis should be in English. A supervisor, will be selected for the student upon acceptance. In the first year, the student collects scientific information based on literature and field work. The actual write-up takes place in the second years. The student can choose between conducting field work in archaeological sites or research through studying the archaeological objects available in the Ministry of Heritage and culture and department of Archaeology at sultan Qaboos University.
Admission Requirement
- Two year’s Work experience is a must for candidates with Cumulative Grade Point Average between 2.5 and 2.74 in the Bachelor degree, or
- Applicants who have bachelor degree from a recognized institution and a postgraduate diploma in a related specialization from a recognized institution of higher education with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4-point scale or its equivalent.
English Proficiency
Coursework and Thesis program should:
· Achieve level (4.5) or higher in academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic or a score of (49) or higher in the International TOEFL – IBT
Thesis program should:
· Achieve Band (6) or higher in academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic or a score of (79) or higher in the International TOEFL - IBT
Selection Criteria
Concerned department will assess applicants according to its criteria, which may include a written test and/or an interview.
