Program Overview

 

The program aim is to deepen scientific research in the fields of measurements and evaluation and contribute to the development of the Omani society by providing highly skilled professionals in this area which is paramount for several sectors in Oman. The program is expected to provide the Omani society with highly qualified cadres who are capable of providing services to different educational, social, and health-related institutions, at a level that is comparable to other relevant global and regional programs.
The program structure includes both credit courses and dissertation/thesis writing. It requires the completion of 12 courses with a total of 36 credit hours (27 core credit hours, 9 elective credits of the department/college/university graduate courses). It also requires writing reports, passing a comprehensive oral exam at the end of the second year, attending discussion panels, publishing a study in a scientific journal, presenting a paper at a regional/international conference and conducting original scientific research in the area (which is a doctoral dissertation/thesis equal to 40 credit hours).

 

 

Admission Requirements

 

 

  1. Obtaining a master’s degree in psychology, including any psychology division, from a recognized academic institution. Those holding a master’s degree in humanities and social sciences are eligible to apply and they can be admitted after the approval of the program’s committee in the department.
  2. A cumulative GPA for the master’s degree of no less than 3 out of 4 or its equivalent in any other system.
  3. Submit two letters of recommendation from academic faculty members, demonstrating the applicant’s proficiency in research skills.
  4. A statement of motivation in which the candidate indicates the reason for his/her personal interest and motivation to join the program, including his/her research interests and future academic goals after obtaining the PhD degree.
  5. Applicants are required to provide a release letter from their employer, addressed to the Dean of Postgraduate Studies at SQU. For unemployed applicants, a statement from the Ministry of Labor confirming their unemployment status is necessary.
     

 

English Proficiency

Before starting the program, the admitted candidates should submit an English Proficiency Test Certificate band (5) or higher in academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic or a score of (59) or higher in the International TOEFL – IBT. The English language proficiency test should be submitted with the application.
