The Agriculture Department offers two credit courses: LANC 2040 and LANC 2041. Both meet six hours a week. Most of the students register for 2040 in the Fall semester and take the 2nd course (2041) in the Spring semester. We have an overall intake of about 160 to 180 students
LANC2040
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the skills and vocabulary required for participation in their undergraduate science courses.
The materials for this course are an inhouse textbook and materials posted on the Moodle learning environment. The language instructors also make use of Philip's Environment Atlas as a resource book and encourage students to do some non-scientific reading.
LANC 2041
Our second course is more specialized in the field of Agriculture. We use an in-house textbook which is focussed on all main skills and in addition has a detailed section on writing laboratory reports, a topic which students find particularly useful. Students are also required to prepare and present a talk on a subject related to any field of science. As in Lanc 2040 students are required to use the Moodle learning environment to further their studies.
