To introduce junior researchers to the range of skills needed to take a piece of research from the proposal stage to a paper published in an international journal. Special emphasis is placed on constructing a paper, dealing with editors and reviewers, and ethical issues.

3. Basic Safety Training

To ensure that students working in laboratories or the field are aware of relevant safety procedures. This includes fire safety, hazardous chemicals, field safety and basic first aid.

10. Effective Supervision.
|
v Analyze the characteristics of excellent supervision and excellent student behaviour.
v Analyze the obstacles to effective supervision such as time management, communication, ethics, writing, research planning and relationship structure.
v Review the University regulations, expectations and processes for graduate student supervision along with expectations for the students themselves.
v Investigate alternative models of supervision, teaching and learning at the graduate level.
v Create a cross-campus researcher/supervisor network that can analyze and provide feedback, to the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies, concerning the supervision of graduate students at SQU.
v Use the above knowledge and analyzes to create a personal supervision plan that supports the development of both the faculty member and the students’ academic and career development.

11. Workshop On Writing For Publication
|
The process is designed to follow on from the half-day workshop run by DPS and aims at providing a supportive context for researchers to work on their own publication and share their experiences and frustrations with others. Topics which will be covered include knowledge construction; research report as argument; manuscript organization; and solutions to getting published

12. Searching and Assessing Digital Sources in the Internet and Databases

The aim of this workshop is to provide users of the Internet and Databases with the tools and information that are needed to search more quickly and effectively, and to assess the searching results based on bibliometric approaches.
