Prem Chhetri is the former Head of Department (SC&L Management) and Professor of logistics management at RMIT University in Australia. He was Director of Global Supply Chain and logistics Research Priority Area, Deputy Head for Industry Engagement at RMIT and Program Director for Open Australia Universities. Prof Chhetri is the Chairman of the Belt and Road Initiative Global Research Network (BRI-GRN). Previously, he was a Research Fellow and a Lecturer in the University of Queensland. He also worked as a Spatial Information Analyst with the Brimbank City Council (Local Government) in Melbourne. Currently, Prem is Professor in the School of Accounting, Information Systems and Supply Chain, RMIT University, where the focus of his teaching revolves around supply chain management, port management, global trade operations and freight logistics management. He was a Visiting Professor at the Hellenic Institute of Technology, Greece and Visiting Scholar at University of Hull, UK. Currently, he is a Visiting Professor at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia and Chandigarh University, India.
Prem was awarded a Ph.D. in Geospatial Science from RMIT University in 2003. He holds a Master of Philosophy from Jawaharlal Nehru University and a Master of Arts from Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University – the two most prestigious institutions in India. Prem is known internationally for the research in spatially-integrated analytics and urban logistics. His recent research focused on port logistics, climate change, urban analytics, tourism potential modelling, emergency response, skills and training, and the application of GIS and GPS in transport, infrastructure and logistics planning.
Prem has received a number of Australian Research Council and federal and state government grants to study quality of urban life, urban fire logistics and emergency planning, logistics clusters, innovation and growth, and climate change and port logistics. He has published over hundred refereed papers and numerous research reports for the government and industry. His publications include: OMEGA, Transportation Research Part E, Transportation Research Part D, European Journal of Transport and Infrastructure Research, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, Maritime Policy and Management, Papers in Regional Science, Computer, Environment and Urban Systems, Tourism Geographies, Tourism Management, Transactions in GIS and Journal of Population Research.
Prem has received the 2016 RMIT College of Business Excellence Award for Innovative Research Supervision, RMIT University 2013 Research Excellence Award, NIGLAS Chinese Academy of Sciences Fellowship 2013, the RMIT 2009 Learning and Teaching Award, The Pope John Paul Fellowship, the University Grant Commission Fellowship, Government of India and the EU Visiting Professorship at Hull Institute of Logistics, Fraunhofer Institute, Karlsruhe and Hellenic Institute of Transport, Greece.
Prem has been a member in the international panel of experts on the 7th RTD Framework Program of the European Commission and a contributor to two key research projects WEATHER (Weather Extremes – Impacts on Transport Systems and Hazards for European Regions) and MOWE-IT (Management of Weather Extremes on Transport Systems). He is currently in the Quality Assurance Panel on NOVELOG funded through the EU Horizon2020.
