About Human & Clinical Anatomy

Welcome to the website of the Department of Human and Clinical Anatomy, College of medicine & health Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University. Here you can find out about the programs and courses offered by the department as well as updates about the activities conducted in the three aspects of teaching, research and community service.

The main aim of the Department of Human and Clinical Anatomy is to equip medical, nursing and biomedical sciences students with a sound basic anatomical knowledge that enables them to understand the morphology and the structure-function relationship of the human body at the cellular, tissues, organ system and organismal levels. It also provides a higher level of clinical and applied anatomy in the hope that students will use it in their future career and promote safe medical practice.

To fulfil this aim, the department offers subject-based and integrated courses that cover gross anatomy, histology, embryology and neuroanatomy. This is complimented by clinically-oriented teaching modalities including surface and living anatomy, clinical skills and medical imaging. The department also encourages and promotes innovation in basic, clinical and educational anatomical research. We are also open to collaboration with researchers from within and outside SQU and Oman.

Last but not least, the department with its available facilities continuously provides academic and technical expertise and logistic support to different departments and units at Sultan Qaboos University and other institutions in the country with regards to activities involving the use of cadaveric materials for educational and scientific purposes.
