Program Overview

 

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) program in Accounting and Finance caters to a specialized market within the greater realm of Accounting and Finance in Oman. 

  • The program requires satisfactory completion of 30 credit hours of course work, in addition to research leading to a thesis (6 credit hours).
  • The program is benchmarked with international universities offering similar degrees. 
  • The content equips students with advanced skills and knowledge in the area of Accounting and Finance
     
  • On top of enhancing career advancement, the program aims to equally prepare its graduates to pursue careers in the areas of Accounting and Finance as well as international doctoral degrees.

Admission Requirements

 

  •   Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or a related discipline from Sultan Qaboos University or any other recognized university
  • A Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.75 out of 4 or it's equivalent in another system and the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies will make the assessment for equivalency acceptance.
  • Work experience is a must for candidates with Cumulative Grade Point Average between 2.5 and 2.74 in the Bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicant must submit a no-objection letter from employer, addressed to the dean of postgraduate studies at SQU. For un-employed, Omani applicants need to submit a statement from The Public Authority of Ministry of Labour documenting the unemployment status of the applicant.
  • Proof of English language competency must be demonstrated by sufficient scores in IELTS or TOEFL according to the SQU Postgraduate Academic Regulations.  
Post-Admission Requirements  Applicants who do not meet normal admission requirements AND/OR non- business degree holders may be required to complete up to 4 bridging courses before starting their degree plan. The bridging courses will not be counted towards the overall GPA required for satisfactory progress.
English Proficiency

 

  • Submitting band (6.0) or higher in academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic or a score of (79) or higher in the International TOEFL – IBT.

or 

  • Submitting band (5.5) in the academic IELTS test or (69) in the international TOEFL test, provided that they register for the language course LANK6000 (after being admitted) during the first semester.

  • The final selection will be based on the CGPA from the bachelor’s degree and the marks obtained in the admission test
