Mission

Excellence in theoretical and practical legal education, and serving the community by developing graduates equipped with critical thinking and scientific research skills.

Quality and Accreditation Policies and Procedures

The Faculty of Law adopts an integrated set of policies and procedures to ensure quality and academic accreditation. These policies and procedures aim not only to meet the requirements of the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education (OAAAQA), but also extend to include international accreditation standards, such as those applied by the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA), which has accredited the Bachelor of Laws program. These can be summarized in the following points:

  • Student assessment and achievement of learning outcomes.

  • Design, development, and review of academic programs.

  • Quality management and continuous improvement.

  • Quality of teaching and learning.

  • Educational resources and support services.

  • Scientific research and community service.

Accreditation Standards

The Faculty of Law pursues academic accreditation processes in accordance with specific standards set by the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education (OAAAQA). The Faculty may also obtain international accreditations from specialized bodies; specifically, the Bachelor of Laws program has received international re-accreditation from the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA), based on the following standards:

  • Program objectives, national and international orientation, and labor market positioning.

  • Program admission procedures.

  • Content, program structure, and educational concepts.

  • Academic environment, program management, cooperation, and support services.

  • Documentation and quality assurance.

Programmatic Accreditation

Seeking accreditation for the academic program is considered a significant milestone for reviewing the program and receiving feedback from the accreditation body to address any weaknesses or gaps. This has effectively taken place for the Bachelor of Laws program, which was accredited in 2019 and had its accreditation renewed in 2024. Through both reviews, the Faculty identified key points that led to program modifications, including the creation of new courses, the adoption of specific examination and assessment procedures, and the expansion of training opportunities.

Quality of Education and Services

The Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation Unit at the College of Law, Sultan Qaboos University, is a fundamental pillar for achieving excellence in legal education. It works diligently to ensure that all programs and curricula meet the highest local and international academic standards, reflecting the College's commitment to producing highly qualified legal professionals. Through continuous evaluation, performance review, and the development of educational practices, the Unit seeks to enhance the quality of the entire academic process, from teaching methods and scientific research to student services and facilities.

The College of Law at Sultan Qaboos University is committed to providing distinguished legal education and high-quality student services, recognizing the importance of preparing qualified legal cadres for the labor market and society. The College adopts a comprehensive approach to quality assurance, starting from designing curricula that keep pace with the latest legal developments and meet international standards, to implementing innovative teaching methods that enhance critical understanding and develop students' practical skills.

Its role is not limited to merely meeting accreditation requirements, but extends to establishing a culture of quality as an integral part of the College's identity, ensuring graduates are capable of meeting labor market needs and contributing effectively to the legal system.

The College also pays great attention to the quality of support services, from providing a supportive learning environment that includes an integrated law library and modern research resources, to providing effective academic advising and continuous student support, ensuring an integrated educational experience that contributes to refining the legal student's personality and enabling them to reach their full potential.

Digital Content in the Educational Process

Digital content in the educational process at the College of Law aims to modernize teaching methods and keep pace with technological development. This includes recorded lectures, electronic law libraries that provide easy access to rulings and legislation, and interactive forums for studying cases and legal discussions. These tools enhance students' understanding of the material, develop their legal research skills, and prepare them for a professional reality that increasingly relies on digital sources. Virtual simulations of courts and pleadings also facilitate better practical training.

Theoretical and Applied Learning

The theoretical aspect forms the foundation through the study of various legal branches (such as constitutional, civil, and criminal law) to understand the principles, legislation, and theories upon which the legal system is based. The applied aspect aims to provide students with practical skills such as drafting contracts and legal memos, analyzing real-world cases, and training in the art of advocacy and virtual court simulations. This combination is essential for graduating lawyers, judges, and consultants capable of effectively applying the law and resolving disputes.

Interactive Education

Using methods and techniques that actively engage the student in the learning process, this type of education aims to develop critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills. Its applications include guided discussions, case studies, legal workshops, and role-playing (moot courts). These methodologies enhance the understanding of legal material and help students apply theoretical knowledge in real-world practical contexts, better preparing them for their future careers.

Supportive Environment for People with Disabilities

The College of Law provides an inclusive and supportive environment for its students with disabilities to ensure equal opportunities in legal education. This requires providing physical facilities such as accessible ramps and elevators, and adapting digital content to be accessible (such as machine-readable text materials). Support also includes academic accommodations such as allowing extra time for exams, and providing specialized counseling services tailored to their requirements. This commitment ensures that all students can fully participate in their studies and develop their legal skills without barriers.

Activities, Workshops, and Events

Activities and configurations complement the academic curriculum at the College of Law, aiming to refine students' practical and personal skills. These activities focus on Moot Court programs to enhance advocacy and legal research skills. Configurations include organizing specialized workshops and scientific seminars with expert participation to link theoretical study with actual practice. Additionally, the College encourages participation in legal clinics and field visits to judicial authorities, ensuring graduates are equipped with the practical experience and critical thinking necessary for the labor market.
