In the process of government orientation towards providing open data for various sectors in the Sultanate. In order to achieve the university's mission To excel in teaching and learning, research and innovation, and community service by promoting the principles of scientific analysis and creative thinking in a collegial and stimulating environment and to participate in the production, development and dissemination of knowledge and interact with national and international communities; Sultan Qaboos University decided to make open data available in various fields: such as teaching and learning, scientific research and publishing, international cooperation, human resources, interaction with society, and the university hospital.

The open data support the principle of transparency and enable interested researchers, the private sector, and civil society to  access reliable and up-to-date data.
