A student delegation from the Department of Sociology and Social Work has concluded its training programme at the Dreama Orphans Care Centre in Qatar. The intensive programme, held from 13 to 17 July 2025, was organised as part of ongoing cooperation between SQU and Dreama.

The training aimed to enhance students’ skills and enrich their practical experience in a specialised social care setting. It included a group of students from the Department of Sociology and Social Work, who received hands-on training under the supervision of specialised departments at Dreama, particularly the Social Services Department and the Residential Care Division. The programme provided students with the opportunity to observe operational procedures and learn about best practices in the care, empowerment, and integration of orphans.

Amal bint Khalfan Al-Salti, Training Supervisor at the Department of Sociology and Social Work, emphasised the importance of such programmes in preparing qualified national professionals capable of addressing social challenges with competence and professionalism. She stated, “This training reflects the University’s vision of strengthening its connection with the community and developing students' capabilities through real-world field experiences.”

Her Excellency Sheikha Najla bint Ahmed Al Thani, Executive Director of Dreama Centre, welcomed the student delegation and praised the University’s efforts in preparing a promising generation of social workers. She affirmed that hosting students from SQU aligns with the Centre’s social responsibility and contributes to enriching knowledge exchange while fostering academic and professional collaboration between institutions.

Dr. Wafa bint Said Al-Mamari, Head of the Department of Sociology and Social Work, expressed her sincere appreciation to all who contributed to hosting the students, highlighting the value of this experience in enhancing students’ skills and offering a practical learning environment through which they could benefit from real-life and professional expertise.

She added that training in a new environment broadens students’ perspectives in understanding social and cultural challenges and supports them in applying what they have learned in the classroom. It also fosters communication and interpersonal skills, ultimately strengthening their readiness to work in their future fields.

Participating students expressed their gratitude for what they described as a rich and valuable opportunity that allowed them to gain practical experience and engage directly with issues of social care, greatly enhancing their preparedness for professional practice.

It is worth noting that the Dreama Orphans Care Centre is a specialised social institution established by the gracious initiative of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al-Misnad. The Centre operates under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation for Social Work, which coordinates national efforts in the fields of social care and empowerment. Dreama is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for orphaned children who do not qualify for traditional family-based care, with a particular focus on rehabilitation and integration into society.
