The Sultan Qaboos University Cavalry, in cooperation with the Royal Guard Cavalry, has concluded the Al-Adiyat Basic and Advanced Courses, which ran for seven weeks with the participation of 34 members of the university’s cavalry.

The course was held as part of ongoing collaboration between the two sides, aimed at refining participants’ skills and enhancing their knowledge of horse care and riding techniques, through a comprehensive training programme combining theoretical and practical components. The training was delivered by four instructors from the Royal Guard Cavalry, led by trainer Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Harthi.

The programme comprised two parallel basic and advanced courses. Training focused on developing both foundational and advanced horse riding skills, fostering discipline and responsibility, instilling principles of safety and professionalism in handling horses, preparing participants for local competitions, and building self-confidence and teamwork within an integrated training environment.

Practical sessions covered the fundamentals of horse care, grooming, and daily maintenance, as well as understanding horses’ health and nutritional needs. Participants also honed their riding skills, including control, balance, and handling techniques during training and competitions, with direct supervision from the trainers.

Several participants expressed their pride in taking part, noting that the course provided a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of the field, learn about Oman’s rich heritage, and cultivate values of commitment, discipline, and team spirit.

The closing ceremony was held under the patronage of Professor Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Yahyai, Dean of the College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences, in the presence of Colonel Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Hadhrami, Director of Training at the Royal Guard of Oman, as guest of honour. The event featured a series of displays, starting with a performance by the male course participants, followed by a display from the female participants, and the recognition of trainees and trainers. The ceremony also included show jumping, tent pegging, and horse etiquette displays, before concluding with a musical ride and a tour of the stables.
