A delegation from Sultan Qaboos University took part in Sustainability Week at Expo 2025 Japan, headed by Her Highness Sayyida Dr. Muna bint Fahd Al Said, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for International Cooperation. The delegation included Professor Amer bin Saif Al-Hinai, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Mahmood bin Abdullah Al-Kindi, Director of the International Cooperation Office.

Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan, is held under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, which reflects a global vision to build a sustainable future that balances technological progress with human well-being.

SQU’s participation in this global event comes as part of its commitment to keeping pace with international developments in sustainability and advanced technologies, while strengthening its global presence in scientific and research forums focused on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Sustainability Week covered a range of key topics, including the future of the planet and biodiversity, the green transition and clean energy, smart cities and sustainable communities, as well as innovation in food, water and shelter, education for sustainable development, and human capacity-building. Workshops and seminars facilitated the exchange of expertise and the establishment of new academic and research partnerships with leading international institutions.

The delegation also toured several national pavilions, exploring pioneering innovations and global initiatives that support sustainability and quality of life.

On the sidelines of the visit, the delegation met with Professor Hiroyuki Suzuki, holder of the Sultan Qaboos Chair in Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Tokyo, and Dr. Seiji from the Oman–Japan Friendship Association. The meeting discussed ways to strengthen academic and research cooperation between SQU and Japanese higher education institutions, particularly in Middle Eastern studies, scientific research and modern technologies, as well as opportunities for academic exchange and enhancing bilateral relations between Oman and Japan.

This participation reflects Sultan Qaboos University’s commitment to strengthening its international presence and supporting sustainability and innovation initiatives, contributing to the realisation of Oman Vision 2040 towards building a sustainable, knowledge-based economy founded on research and innovation.
