The University Council held its second meeting of the 2025–2026 academic year in the Council Meeting Hall, chaired by Her Excellency Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al-Shaibani, Minister of Education and Chair of the University Council, in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Chair of the Council, along with Their Excellencies and distinguished members of the Council.

The Council reviewed updates on the progress of work across SQU in various relevant areas, as well as the implementation status of the decisions and recommendations issued at previous meetings.

In furtherance of SQU’s mission and in strengthening ties with its graduates to foster effective and sustainable partnerships that support its educational and research objectives, the Council approved the regulations governing the Alumni Association at Sultan Qaboos University.

In a move aimed at enabling students to enrol directly in their chosen specialisations upon joining the University, the Council also approved direct admission into programmes offered by the Colleges of Engineering, Science, and Arts and Social Sciences. This step forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance admission policies in a manner that strengthens the quality of the educational process and the efficiency of its outcomes. The Council further approved the target intake numbers for undergraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic year.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council commended the efforts undertaken across various fields and emphasised the importance of proceeding in accordance with the University’s plans and ensuring their continued implementation.
