Programme to Support UNESCO Chair on Artificial Intelligence

26 Jan, 2025 | Return|

Sultan Qaboos University and Omantel have signed a cooperation programme to support the UNESCO Chair on Artificial Intelligence as part of Omantel’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Under this programme, Omantel will provide funding for research, organisational and awareness activities, as well as supply the necessary infrastructure for the Chair. This includes systems, networks, platforms, and data centres. The collaboration also entails conducting research that addresses local needs, promoting awareness and educational activities, and producing content for various media platforms to highlight the UNESCO Chair on Artificial Intelligence.

This partnership aims to enhance the reputations of both entities domestically, regionally, and internationally. It also aligns with their shared objectives of fostering sustainability and social development through joint projects. Furthermore, the programme offers opportunities to qualify Omantel employees in the field of artificial intelligence.

The programme was signed by His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, the Vice Chancellor, and Talal bin Said Al-Mamari, CEO of Omantel.

The UNESCO Chair on Artificial Intelligence, launched in March 2024, brings together researchers specialising in the fundamentals, ethics, and applications of artificial intelligence across various fields, including engineering, education, medicine, economics, communications, and information.
