Within the efforts of the College of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sultan Qaboos to get the quality and international accreditation of pro­grams of different departments, Department of Sociology and Social Work has been accredited for its four programs (Bachelor of Sociology, Bache­lor of Social Work, Master’s Program in Sociology, Master’s program in social work). The accreditation agency is AHPGS, which have already accredited more than 900 domestic and international study programs.

 

 

 

  1. Graduates will acquire theoretical and applied skills necessary for the scientific study of social issues and problems.
  2. Graduates are competent in the skills of social communication and have the capacity to influence their professional and community spheres.
  3. Graduates are knowledgeable about the structure, culture and contemporary renaissance of Omani society.
  4. Graduates will learn to be creative, innovative, and cooperative and to employ independent critical thinking skills in solving problems.

 

 

  1. The student will be able to recognize social work profession basic knowledge including: Gaining definitions, principles, philosophy, in addition to main concepts.
  2. The student will be able to acknowledge fundamental knowledge related to social work such as understanding and illustrating:   Socialization process, social and psychological problems, human behavior, various growth stages.
  3. a- The student will be able to acquire knowledge and theories related to methods of social work (Social Casework, Social Groupwork,  Community Organization, and Social Institutions Management) and attain the ability to analyze case studies on all levels.

b- The student will able to engage, assess, intervene, and evaluate with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.

c-The student will able to obtain and practice the skills required for practicing

  1. The student will be able to understand knowledge related to various fields of social work and acquire skills required for social intervention in these fields.
  2. The student will be able to design and conduct applied social research according to scientific research values and ethics.
  3.  The student will be able to apply scientific knowledge and theories in social work practice on all levels.
  4.  a- The student will be able to understand and analyze social policies in the Omani society.
     b- The Student will be able to understand and analyze social planning; its strategies and phase, and to plane for confronting social problems in the Omani society.

 

 

 

AHPGS is a legally-recognized, independent and non-profit accreditation agency. It was established on 2001. Currently, AHPGS is accredited by the German Accreditation Council, and it has successfully accredited more than 700 national and international study programs, including one program in King Saud University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Since 2006 AHPGS is a member of the “European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education” (ENQA) and since 2009 AHPGS is a member of the “International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education” (INQAAHE). Since 2009, the AHPGS is listed in the “European Quality Assurance Register” (EQAR) and since 2012, AHPGS is member of the “Network of Central and Eastern European Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education” (CEENQA).

 

 

 

Visit of Dr. Michael Cronin (Associate Professor:
School of Social Work, Monmouth University, USA):

The program committee invited Dr. Cronin (March 16th, 2015) to talk about his experience in the accreditation process for the BSW programs which is accredited through the CSWE-Council on Social Work Education in the US (CHEA).

Visit of AHPGS Accreditation agency:

The program committee invited  AHPGS representatives (the director of the agency and another member on April 14&15th 2015). They took about accreditation process in their agency and explained the required self evaluation and required issues to get the accreditation.
