It is my honor to welcome you all: our valued students, our esteemed faculties, our respected technicians and administrators, and our dear visitors. Welcome to one of the oldest and most prestigious media schools in the Gulf region and Arab World.

Mass Communication Department at the College of Arts and Social Sciences was launched in 1987, with a focus on delivering an up-to-date and quality education to Omani cadres who are interested in journalism, electronic publishing, public relations, advertising and broadcasting. The main objective of the department is to provide the national and regional media institutions with qualified journalists and media specialists equipped with scientific knowledge and media skills through carefully selected and organized curricula at the level of undergraduate and graduated programs.

The department runs one of the most respected B.A program in Mass communication in the region that has been acridid in 2019 and for Six Years. It also has a distinguished M.A program in journalism, Public Relations and broadcasting. The department launched a Ph.D. program in Mass Communication in September 2023.

The department has long and successful partnerships with media organizations. This fruitful cooperation managed through the Advisory Committee enhances our students’ capabilities to join the media industry as soon as they graduate and sometimes even before.

To provide academic programs in media and communication, considering the best quality standards and working to provide the community with competent specialists in this field, qualified with the required professional knowledge and skills.

 

  1. Enabling Sultan Qaboos University to play its pioneering academic role in training and qualifying its affiliated students in the media field.

  2. Providing the philosophical and theoretical knowledge and applied skills necessary to qualify students in media and communication in line with contemporary global trends.

  3. Enhancing future opportunities for students to engage in various businesses and professions related to media and communication and encouraging entrepreneurship and continuous learning.

  4. Providing the requirements of scientific research in media and communication and encouraging students affiliated with the program to study, understand and criticize media issues.

  5. Disseminating the media culture and its message in the community circles through activities that achieve the vision of the university, college, and department in strengthening community partnerships locally and nationally.
