Students Professional Development

Overview
The student professional development at the College of Economics and Political Science is designed to provide CEPS students skills they need to enhance the academic and career success. This is primarily achieved by establishing a competitive edge for CEPS students and promote a long-term career plan. The student professional development activities are not only designed to increase awareness among CEPS students, but also to support them to learn how to build and maintain a professional business relationship, networking, interview style and preparation, career planning and exploration, internships and training opportunities, relationship building strategies, workplace culture, art of negotiation and conversation, leadership and management, research and data analysis, and writing and communication. The office of assistant dean for training and community services helps to facilitate the integration of student professional development activities across the college through guest speakers, workshops, courses, panel discussion, seminars, events, and other programs. This is done in collaboration with the college and other supporting units within the university (Deanship of Students Affairs, Center for Career Guidance, Center for Student Counseling and Intendent Learning Center).

Main Events

1. The Annual Used Book Exhibition

In March 2014, the college conducted the fifth annual used books exhibition. This is a community service projects in which the college aims to encourage reading, knowledge dissemination and sharing of books. The college gives a call out to the outside community to donate their used books which they no long need. The college then collects, categorizes, price and sell these books to other interested readers. Every year, the exhibition takes place in Muscat City Center. The revenues from the exhibition are given as charity for one of the non-profit organizations in the community. Organizations that benefited from this included for example Oman Institute for the Blind, The Cancer Society, The Handicapped Society and others.
