Mass Communication Department at the College of Arts and Social Sciences was launched in 1987, with a focus on delivering an up-to-date and quality education to Omani cadres who are interested in journalism, electronic publishing, public relations, advertising and broadcasting. The main objective of the department is to provide the national and regional media institutions with qualified journalists and media specialists equipped with scientific knowledge and media skills through carefully selected and organized curricula at the level of undergraduate and graduated programs.

The department runs one of the most respected B.A program in Mass communication in the region. It also has a distinguished M.A program in journalism, Public Relations and broadcasting. The department will launch a Ph.D. program in Mass Communication soon enough.

The department has long and successful partnerships with media organizations. This fruitful cooperation managed through the Advisory Committee enhances our students’ capabilities to join the media industry as soon as they graduate and sometimes even before.
