The Department of Sociology and Social Work offers one program to obtain Bachelor of Arts in Sociology Major. In addition, it offers a Master of Arts program in Sociology. The following is a brief outline of the degree plan for each of the two programs:
 
BA Sociology Major:
 
  1. 12 credit hours as university requirements.
  2. 20 credit hours as college requirements.
  3. 64 credit hours as sociology major requirements.
  4. 24 credit hours as a minor specialization in: (Social Work, Arabic Language, History, Geography, Journalism, Theatre and Tourism).
 
MA in Sociology:
A student must receive eight courses (24 credits) in two semesters (or in four semesters for part-time students). After passing courses, a student has register for two semesters to prepare a thesis in the field of sociology.
 

Sociology and Social Work Department introduces two plans to obtain Bachelor of social work: "Pure Social Work" and "Major Social work". In addition, it introduces a master program in social work.

The following is a brief about both programs:

Bachelor Level:

  1. Pure Social Work:

A student must earn 120 credit hours to obtain a Bachelor degree in social work as follows:

  1. 12 credit hours as university requirements.
  2. 20 credit hours as college requirements.
  3. 88 credit hours as social work requirements.

Major Social Work:

  1. 12 credit hours as university requirements.
  2. 20 credit hours as college requirements.
  3. 64 credit hours as major social work requirements.
  4. 24 credit hours as a minor specialization in: (Sociology, Arabic, history, geography).

Master Level:

A student must receive eight courses (24 credits) in two semesters (or in four semesters for part-time students). After passing courses, a student has to prepare a thesis in the field of social work.

The Philosophy Department offers three types of courses:

A- A College requirement course about ''Critical Thinking'' (PHIL1100).

B- Two College Elective courses: about ''Philosophy and Contemporary Society'' (PHIL2011), and ''Philosophy and Humanities'' (PHIL2022)

C- Three University Elective courses: about ''Philosophy and Society'' (PHIL2030), ''Ethics'' (PHIL2060), and ''Trends of contemporary philosophical thought'(PHIL2070).

    The Philosophy Department aims to help students, from different specialties, to develop their skills in critical thinking, their ability to think clearly and rationally about philosophical questions. Someone with these skills is able to identify, construct and evaluate arguments. He is also able to understand the rational and logical connections between ideas, and to think clearly and systematically. These skills improve his ideas, his comprehension abilities, the way he express his ideas, and provide him with the necessary tools for a process of self-evaluation.
