Information Systems Department Hosts a Renowned IS Scholar and Senior Editor of The Most Prestigious IS Journals

Professor Rajiv Kohli, one of the leading Information systems(IS) scholar was on a  research visit from October 2nd-7th, 2017 for SQU granted project titled "Developing a Strategic Framework for ICT Investments in Omani Financial Institutions", and co-investigated by Dr. Kamla Al-Busaidi and Hon. Dr. Saeed Al-Muharami at the college of Economics and Political Science.

Prof. Rajiv Kohli is “the John N. Dalton Memorial Professor of Business in the Raymond A. Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary. Dr. Kohli's research interests include Business Value of Information Technology, Healthcare Information Systems, and Managing Innovation with Information Technologies. Dr. Kohli is ranked as #1 scholar in a Health Information Technology (HIT) thought leadership study.  Dr. Kohli's research is published in the most prestigious IS journals: MIS Quarterly, Management Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly Executive, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of Operations Management, and Decision Support Systems, among other journals. He is a coauthor of the book The IT Payoff: Measuring Business Value of Information Technology Investment, published by Financial Times Prentice-Hall.  Dr. Kohli has worked in healthcare, telecommunications and manufacturing. Prior to joining academia, he was a Project Leader in Decision Support Services at Trinity Health. Dr. Kohli is an honorary Fellow of the Cambridge Judge Business School and a Research Affiliate at MIT Sloan Center for Information Systems Research. He is a past Senior Editor for MIS Quarterly and is currently serving as a Senior Editor for Information Systems Research.”
 

As part of his visit ,Prof. Kohli kindly gave a  workshop and seminar in addition to the consultancy meetings for the research project. He also met with Dr. Rahma Al-Mahroqi , Deputy vice chancellor for postgraduate and research.

 

Prof. Kohli gave a workshop titled” How to [do research to] Publish in Leading Journals”.  The workshop was co-organized with the SQU center for community service and continuing education.  Through the center, several Omani IS researchers from other colleges and universities in Oman were invited to attend the workshop.  The Workshop aimed to  discuss the best practices that lead to good quality research and observations to improve the chances of success in publishing research in leading academic journals.

 

Prof. Kohli also gave a seminar on : Pursuing Business Value of Information Systems: When, Where and How?  The seminar aimed to provide an overview how research has pursued the study of IS business value, its locus and temporality, and the importance to understand the nature of the business to demonstrate business value of IS to justify the investment. Implications for IS researchers and professionals were presented.  The seminar was attended by B.Sc., M.Sc. and MBA students, faculty members and practitioners from Omani organizations.
