Experience as a Visiting Student at CEPS – Pauline Koch (Bachelor student of International Relations from Germany), Fall 2016

Studying as a visiting student at SQU’s College of Economics and Political Science was a truly unique and enriching experience. From an academic point of view, it gave me the opportunity to learn about economic development and foreign policy from an Omani, Gulf and Middle Eastern perspective. Moreover, in the context of numerous individual and group projects, I was able to pursue in detail specific areas of interest, such as water and food security in the GCC. Super friendly classmates and teachers as well as always helpful staff made me feel very welcome on campus and in the university community.

However, the semester at SQU not only gave me the chance to advance academically and to improve my Arabic language skills, but also made it possible to explore the beautiful country of Oman. Stunning mountains, wadis and beaches as well as the desert are within the reach of a day or weekend trip. Also, there is no need to get bored when living in the capital Muscat which has a lot to offer such as beaches, malls, museums, the Royal Opera House and countless restaurants. All in all, the four months at SQU and the CEPS have been wonderful and I am thankful to all those who contributed to this semester becoming an unforgettable experience!
