SQU Accounting Week 2025-26: A Landmark Success in Tax Education and Competition

The College of Economics and Political Science recently launched its flagship Accounting Week, a high-impact event that bridged the gap between academic rigor and industry reality. Attended by Chief Guests Prof. Salim Al Harthy (DVC), the Dean, Dr. Almuhktar Al Abri, and College leadership, the first two days set a new benchmark for student-led excellence.

The Omani Tax Journey & Industry Synergy

The "Omani Tax Journey" exhibition was a standout success. Students masterfully navigated visitors through the complex perspectives of tax authorities, corporations, and individuals, concluding with interactive games that proved learning can be both deep and engaging.

The event floor buzzed with professional energy, featuring four student startups alongside industry giants Renaissance Services and PwC. Notably, PwC utilized the platform to headhunt top talent for their prestigious graduate program, highlighting the high caliber of our students.

The Accounting League: A National Showdown

The Accounting League saw a fierce intellectual battle between 11 universities that formed 30 teams from across Oman. After a high-pressure preliminary round, 6 elite teams—including 3 from SQU—advanced to a grueling final.

With less than 12 hours to analyze three complex corporate cases, finalists stepped into the roles of tax advisors, presenting sophisticated strategies for tax planning and sustainability. The results solidified SQU’s position as a leader in the field:

  • 1st Place: Sultan Qaboos University
  • 2nd Place: College of Banking and Financial Studies
  • 3rd Place: Sultan Qaboos University

Leadership and Dedication

This hallmark achievement was made possible by the exceptional Accounting Group student body, whose flawless execution and leadership were praised by all. We extend our deepest gratitude to their dedicated supervisor, Dr. Marwa Al Kalbani, for her visionary mentorship.

Accounting Week 2025-26 isn't just an event; it is a powerful demonstration of our students' readiness to lead the future of Oman’s financial landscape.
