Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder where the body produces fewer red blood cells than normal, or makes abnormal ones. This can result in anemia, fatigue, and other complications.
Unfortunately, thalassemia is common in Oman. If you have thalassemia, you are unable to donate blood, but you can still help by raising awareness about the importance of blood donation in treating patients with thalassemia.
If you are a carrier of thalassemia and in good health, you may be eligible to donate blood, provided you meet all other eligibility criteria.
