Degree Plan

Program objectives:

  • to provide a broad foundation in chemistry that stresses on scientific reasoning and analytical problem solving perspectives.
  • to install a sense of enthusiasm in chemistry students about importance of chemistry in an industrial, economic, environmental and social context.
  • to expose the students to a wide range of experimental techniques using modern instrumentation.
  • to provide students with a broad and balanced foundation of chemical knowledge and practical skills that have a value in chemical and non-chemical employment.
  • to train graduates who can apply their knowledge and skills in analysis of works related to the fundamental areas of chemistry.
  • to provide students with a knowledge and skills base from which they can proceed for further studies in specialized areas of chemistry or multidisciplinary areas involving chemistry.
  • to equip individuals with the necessary skills and competencies to enable them to seek jobs and progress in their academic career.

Program learning outcomes:

  • students will demonstrate an understanding of major concepts in all major disciplines of chemistry: analytical, inorganic, organic and physical.
  • students will employ critical thinking and the scientific method to design, carry out, record and analyze the results of chemical experiments.
  • students will demonstrate proficiency in the use of appropriate instrumentation to collect and record data from chemical experiments.
  • students will know and follow proper procedures and regulations for safe handling, use, and disposal of chemicals.
  • students will demonstrate an awareness of the impact of chemistry on the environment, society, and other cultures outside the scientific community.
  • students will be able to carry out scientific experiments as well as accurately record and analyze the results of such experiments.
  • students will be skilled in problem solving, critical thinking and analytical reasoning as applied to scientific problems.
  • students will be able to communicate the results of scientific work in oral, written and electronic formats to both scientists and the public at large.
  • students will be able to explain why chemistry is an integral activity for addressing social, economic, and environmental problems.
