Ph.D program

The Department of Mathematics also offers a Ph.D program in Mathematics. The requirements to obtain a Ph.D degree in Mathematics are summarized below:

  • The student identifies the research problem in consultation with the supervisor. Admission is based on the academic record, a seminar, and an interview.
  • At the end of the first year of PhD registration, the student must give a departmental seminar. After the seminar, the student will give a viva voce to the committee. The thesis should make a substantial contribution demonstrated by at least one paper being published in an international refereed journal in mathematics or related areas. It also requires that the student makes an oral presentation at an international conference.
  • The student gives at least one seminar every semester and submit a progress report at the end of every semester. Once the thesis committee members approve the readiness of the thesis, the defense will be conducted in the presence of two external examiners, an HoD representative, the supervisor, and a Chair.
