Free program for geophysical modeling

Earth Sciences Department develops a free program for geophysical modeling

The department of Earth Sciences develops a new software program for geophysical modeling called MSeisMod52. The program helps students in geology and geophysics build geological models from which geophysical models can be generated. The program is developed by Dr. Mohammed Farfour, Associate Professor at the department. MSeisMod will help students and fresh graduates practice fundamentals of geophysical modeling and seismic in particular. It also includes tools for seismic data acquisition, and processing.

The program will be soon available in Wikipedia’s list of free programs provided by many world universities. As transferring knowledge and technology and serving the community inside and outside the Sultanate are a part of the Sultan Qaboos University’s vision and mission, the program will be distributed free of charges to universities from all over the world.
