Program Description:
The student should complete the course work requirements specified in the degree plan (see below) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. For the Project, the candidate is required to conduct the necessary literature search, undertake the research, analyses the results write the report and communicate the results at an oral defense. This work need not necessarily be original research, but should be a new application of ideas. The student should identify the research problem in consultation with the supervisor, which normally takes place in the second semester. The student should register for the Project in the third semester after having completed at least 12 credits of the course work.
Admission Requirements:
Applicants should have a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering from Sultan Qaboos University or from any recognized university.
A Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.5 out of 4 or its equivalent in another system and the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies will make the assessment for equivalency acceptance.
English Language Requirements
Before starting the program the applicant should achieve level (6) in IELTS Academic or (550) in the TOEFL paperbased or (213) in TOEFL through the computer or (79) in the TOEFL through the Internet.

Program Description:
The MSc degree program in pure mathematics consists of 24 credits in courses work and a thesis spread over two academic years. The courses of the main major fields in pure mathematics are classified into three groups. The student is required to successfully complete at least 2 courses (6 credits) from each group. The student must complete the rest of the 24 credit hours required, from the courses allocated for the program. The courses offered from each of the three groups depend on the background of the students and the availability of both instructors and students. The department will also take the student choices into consideration. Additionally, the student will be required to produce a research project of sufficient merit. It is a College of Science requirement that master students complete a 3 hour noncredited Philosophy of Science course. The student must take the course “Philosophy of Science” during any of the first three semesters.

PhD in Mathematics
The PhD program in Mathematics provides students with an opportunity to obtain the highest possible expertise in various fields of Mathematics through advanced graduate courses and research. The department has highly trained faculty in pure and applied Mathematics.
After running successful undergraduate and master's programs for several years, the PhD program in the department started with the first intake in the year 2009. Various specializations available for students to pursue their studies are: Algebra, analysis, Topology and Geometry, Differential equations with applications, Optimization and Numerical Analysis, Fluid Dynamics, Non Linear waves and General Relativity. Students who intend to pursue PhD in any the above field must have earned at least Master's degree in Mathematics with GPA of 3.00 or above on a four point scale from a recognized university.
