• Program Outcomes

    On completion of the program, the graduates are capable of the following:

    1. Geology 

    • To carry out geological mapping and study geological samples in field and laboratory, of understanding the various major process within the interior and on the Earth surface, particularly with relevance to Oman and the Middle East
    • To use geological and geophysical instruments in the field, laboratory and ability to collect analyze and interpret various data viz. geochemical, geophysical, hydrological and remotely sensed data with a basic understanding of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
    • To analyze and integrate data using specific industry-relevant software packages of economic significance and governed principles of Sultanate of Oman
    • To function as a team member to accomplish a common goal
    • To communicate effectively with a range of audiences, using written, spoken, and visual media
    • To understand the need for, and have the ability to engage in, life-long learning and continuing professional development

    2.Geophysics

    • To carry out geophysical surveys and making the choice of methods in the exploration of oil, gas, minerals, groundwater besides geological, geotechnical, and environmental engineering understanding the interior of the Earth through mathematical tools
    • To use geophysical and geological instruments in the field, laboratory and ability to collect analyze, and interpret various data by acquiring adequate knowledge in the geology of Oman and the Middle East in particular
    • To integrate and synthesis data using specific industry-relevant software packages relevant to the economic significance and governed principles of Sultanate of Oman
    • To function as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with a range of audiences, using written, spoken, and visual media
    • To understand the need for, and have the ability to engage in, life-long learning and continuing professional development.

     

     
  • Minor in earth sciences

    Minor is Optional: The minimum credits to earn a Minor are 18. Courses counting towards an approved Minor may substitute courses listed as Major Electives (List G*) but no more than 8 credits counting towards the Major degree (lists C, D, E, F*) may count towards a Minor.
