The English for English Specialists (EES) Credit Program is the continuation of English courses for students who have completed the EES Intensive Program. Students are either majoring in English within the College of Education or are specializing in English at the College of Arts. Both sets of students receive identical courses in English while at the Language Center.

Because EES students are specializing in English, the Language Center offers these students more English courses than other programs. After successfully completing the intensive courses, students take three separate credit courses: LANC 1113, LANC 1115, and LANC 1117. If students pass these courses, they go on to take LANC 1118, LANC 1119, and LANC 1120 at the next level.

LANC 1113 and LANC 1118 are largely focused on accuracy in speaking and writing, respectively. While the courses are similar in many respects, the level of accuracy that is expected increases as students progress. LANC 1115 and LANC 1119 are focused on reading. There is a gradual movement from very short stories to longer and more difficult short stories. In addition to working on comprehension and the analysis of these stories, students develop reading skills and increase their vocabulary. LANC 1117 and LANC 1120 are focused on academic writing. After initially being introduced to the components of an academic essay, students go on to practice writing about a variety of topics. In LANC 1120, students are required to read novels and write analytical essays about these novels.

EES students are generally interested in English and motivated to do well since their future employment depends directly on their level of proficiency. At the same time, there is usually a big gap between the level of English students come in with, and the level which they are expected to attain before exiting. As a result, the teachers' expectations and workload for students are high.

Particularly good students can someday be seen back in the Language Center teaching English. Many graduates of this programme are now either in the Language Centre teaching or attaining PhD's or MA's in Britain or the USA. Other students go on to be active members of the English Society, one of the most visible student run organizations on campus. The EES programme hopes it will continue to attract serious students who are motivated to reach the highest possible level of English they can in a short period of time.
