Welcome to the website of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Sultanate of Oman. The Department seeks to combine excellence in education and research with service to the industry. Our vision is to be a leading Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department for the quality of its graduates, research and innovation in the region and beyond. Our goals are to provide a comprehensive engineering education, serve the community and industries and promote collaboration with local and international communities. The Department offers Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. The Department, together with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, also offers the joint program of Mechatronics Engineering. Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program was substantially accredited by ABET, EAC in 2006, while Industrial Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering undergraduate programs were accredited by ABET, EAC in the year 2009. In the second round, all three programs (Mechanical, Industrial, and Mechatronics) received accreditation again from ABET, EAC in 2014.
We produce graduates to become future leaders for industry, academia, government and society in Oman; graduates whose vision is founded upon fundamental knowledge, creative and analytical skills, local/regional perspective, and professional ethics. Through a good blend of course work and projects, the Department strives to imbue in the students the ability to apply knowledge of science, mathematics and engineering to work effectively in multidisciplinary environments, provide leadership and technical expertise, and practice engineering with an ethical approach and concern for the society and environment.

The degree plans for Mechanical, Industrial and Mechatronics Engineering programs span over five years, including one to two semesters of extensive English/Math Foundation program. The Department started postgraduate (MSc) programs in both Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from Fall 2000. In Fall 2009, PhD programs in mechanical and industrial engineering were also introduced. We are proud of our alumni, many of whom are holding leading positions at government ministries, major national and international companies and corporations, academic institutions in Oman and the region.

The faculty of the MIE Department is involved in a wide range of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering areas such as Applied Mechanics and Design, Dynamics and Control, Thermo-Fluids Engineering and Processes, Materials and Manufacturing, Production Planning and Control, Automation and Robotics, Ergonomics and Safety, etc. The faculty members are active in teaching, research and services. The Department has witnessed significant growth in research since its beginning. The department has recently signed several collaboration programs for research, product development and training with local industries in Oman.

This website is intended to introduce Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at SQU and provide information about degree plans, faculty, laboratories and facilities, and the research and consultancy activities of the faculty members. We hope that you will enjoy visiting our website.
