The primarily objective of the Industry Advisory Board (IAB) of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department is to provide an independent, professional review and critique of the academic activities of the Department in order to advance quality of teaching, research and services. In addition, the board assists the visibility of the Department in the engineering community in Oman. The Board shall achieve its objective through performing the following set of tasks:

1. Review the program educational objectives to maintain that they meet ABET Engineering Criteria 2000 and recent industrial practices and needs.
2. Evaluate and present strengths, merits, and weaknesses of the current curriculum and medium of instructions in the context of the Department mission and the programs educational objectives.
3. Provide recommendations to the Department on all aspects related to curriculum and curriculum development in order to promote proper association between academic and professional practices.
4. Review student performance relative to the program learning outcomes from an industrial point of view and propose strategies for continuous progress of the programs.
5. Help in identifying opportunities for student’s involvement in research and capstone projects as well as student’s placements in training programs.
6. Review Department activities and plans pertaining to research, consultancy, and short courses and make necessary recommendations accordingly.
7. Help in identifying opportunities for faculty research and professional development.
