Welcome to the website of the Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Department (PCED) at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). The Department offers two undergraduate Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (PNGE) and Chemical and Process Engineering (CHPE). Both programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. Graduate degrees at both Masters and Doctorate levels are also offered in the PNGE and CHPE programs. PCED in collaboration with other departments in the college and the university strives to provide students with quality petroleum and chemical engineering education, provide services, carry out basic and applied research and provide an environment, which will enable students and faculty members to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and innovative practice of engineering.

The department houses highly qualified and active academic staff in teaching and research. In addition, the department is supported by strong technical staff. The department has several educational and research laboratories that support the undergraduate teaching and graduate research activities.

The research in the department covers several areas such as enhanced oil recovery, reservoir simulation, rock mechanics, mineral resources, reaction engineering, wastewater treatment, green engineering, modeling and control, CO2 capture, process optimization, desalination, membranes, phase change materials and biofuel.
