Welcome to the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, Sultan Qaboos University. The Department offers two undergraduate programs in Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering that received accreditation from ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), EAC in 2006 and 2009 respectively. Both programs underwent a successful ABET re-assessment in 2014.

The Department offers four M.Sc programs in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering (Water Resources), Environmental Engineering and Geomatics Engineering. A postgraduate program in Architectural Engineering is planned for the near future. The Department also offers a Ph.D in Civil Engineering. Currently the Department has more than 650 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Our Industrial Advisory Board lends advice to the Department on issues relevant to our degree plans, student training and professional development.

Our faculty members are graduates from well-known universities in the USA, UK, Canada and Japan. In addition to their teaching and service duties, they are involved in research projects of great significance to Oman and the region. The Department is conducting research and consultancy in Structural Engineering, Construction Materials, Problematic Soils, Environmental Engineering, GIS and Remote Sensing applications in Civil Engineering, Sustainability and energy saving and in the preservation of Omani Heritage. It has state-of-the-art lab facilities. In the past five years, the Department’s faculty acquired research grants and consultancy projects funding worth more than 2 million dollars. More than 120 publications in peer reviewed journals and more than 130 conference papers were published.

We are proud of our students, faculty members, technicians and various laboratory and computer facilities. Students are usually working closely with the Department through the Civil and Architectural Engineering Society. Almost all of our students find employment in the public and private sectors within three months of graduation. Many of our earlier graduates currently assume leadership positions in the public sector.

The Department is witnessing a major expansion in laboratory space, equipment acquisition and students' intake (exceeds 80 students per year). This will hopefully position the Department at the forefront of research and postgraduate education for the 21st century.

We invite you to explore our website and we extend to you an invitation to visit our Department.
