The Department of Mechanical Engineering was one of the four engineering departments established with the opening of Sultan Qaboos University in 1986. The department was renamed as the “Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering” with the introduction of the new program of “Industrial Engineering” in 1999. In 2002, the department started offering a new joint undergraduate degree in Mechatronics Engineering in collaboration with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. The department offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Mechanical and Industrial engineering. All of our programs (Industrial and Mechatronics since 2007, and Mechanical since 2012) are currently accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET.
