The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is committed to excellence in teaching & learning, research & development, and community service. We believe that the role of the Department is not only limited to pursuing academic excellence but also to motivating and empowering its students to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and creative constituents of a fast-changing society.

The Department offers undergraduate (Bachelor of Engineering) and postgraduate (MSc & PhD) programs in Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE). Students enrolled in the undergraduate program may specialize in Telecommunications and Wireless Systems, Embedded Computing & Networks, Power Systems & Energy, or Electronic Instrumentation & Control. In addition, the Department offers an undergraduate Mechatronics Engineering (MCE) program jointly the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

The Department has modernized its undergraduate program by embedding emerging technologies into the curriculum. These technologies include machine learning, unmanned vehicle systems, robotics, etc. If you are an undergraduate student considering their options for specialization, let me assure you that the ECE staff saves no effort in delivering quality courses in a well-designed curriculum. Both the ECE and MCE programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET), a prestigious accreditation that attests to the standard we maintain. Furthermore, the Department hosts several well-equipped educational and research laboratories to serve the pedagogical processes and research endeavors. Students who join the MSc and PhD programs in ECE can expand their knowledge and skills through several advanced courses. The student will develop their research capability as they carry out their thesis.

The Department has competent staff with experience in a broad spectrum of ECE fields such as unmanned vehicle systems, electrical power systems, renewable energy, micro-grids, smart grid, electronic instrumentation, control systems, embedded systems, PLC, SCADA, robotics, computer architecture, computer networks, communication systems, signal processing, biomedical signals and devices, electronic devices and systems, high voltage engineering, embedded vision system, etc. Additionally, the Department receives several internal and external research grants and contracts in collaboration with local industries and organizations.

Furthermore, the Department launched the Oman Competition for AI-Enhanced Drones (Third Edition) this year in partnership with the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology. Also, we are very proud of the extracurricular activities carried out by the student societies, namely, the IEEE Students Society and the Mechatronics Society.
