About Department » Mission & Objectives
Electrical and Computer Engineering is a broad field encompassing such diverse subject areas as computer system design, embedded systems, control systems, high-speed analog and digital circuit design, signal and image processing, communication, electromagnetics, photonics, physics of electronic devices, and software engineering. Knowledge of mathematics, computer systems and natural sciences is applied to the theory, design, and implementation of devices and information technology systems for the benefit of society.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is the largest department in the College of Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University. Currently the department enrolls about 678 undergraduate students and more than 30 graduate students as per Spring 2008. There are 33 faculty members, 11 technical staff and two administrative staff. The department teaches courses and conducts research in the fields of Communications and Signal Processing, Computer Systems  andNetworks , Power Systems and Energy, and Electronic Instrumentation and Control.

VISION STATEMENT
To be among the leading and well known departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Gulf region and beyond.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is to provide an outstanding education in electrical and computer engineering with a rich diversity of skills to contribute to the community prosperity through professional services and research, and to prepare graduates capable of engaging in life-long learning for engineering practice with competence.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Our undergraduate program shall produce graduates:

  1. with broad education, yet focused knowledge in different areas of electrical and computer engineering with ability to identify problems and to design optimized solutions based on industrial standards and modern engineering practices.
  2. capable of communicating and working effectively in a multidisciplinary global environment.
  3. with education that fosters community and global responsibility considering quality, health, safety, ethical and environmental issues.
  4. that have the ability to engage life-long learning and adopt new trends in their fields of specializations.
