This course aims to make students acquire a range of knowledge, skills, and values related to teaching Social Studies in Basic Education program. This course introduces students to the nature and properties of Social Studies, and the characteristics, competencies and roles of the teacher. It also introduces students to the curriculum of Social Studies in Basic Education Program in Sultanate of Oman, the skill of planning Social Studies classes in its all levels and models, and some general teaching methods in Social Studies such as discussion, story, solving problems, brainstorming, concept map, deductive approach, and inductive approach. Moreover, this course includes practicum in teaching methods in a mini Teaching Laboratory. The aim of this course is for students to link between the practical and theoretical aspects through giving them the opportunity to practice planning, teaching, and evaluating skills in a mini Teaching Laboratory, and through field experiences related to school visits and experiencing its educational and practical environment. Finally, this course aims to develop students' research capabilities and their ability to think creatively and critically, also to raise their motivation to learn Social Studies in the different levels of education.
