This group consists of many different activities done by students and supported by the College of Education at SQU with the cooperation of the Cultural and Sports department at the Deanship of Student Affairs. Those activities serve Omani society both internally and externally. As a matter of fact, this group has gone through many developmental stages one of which was establishing five subgroups including: Psychology group, Sports & Society group, Educational Technology group, Tofola group, and Seraj group.

In the spring of 2013, an educational intention for volunteering was established by Education Group. This voluntary intention aims at activating the youth’s role in serving the society by voluntary work. The educational voluntary intention is going to continue its way to reach glorious goals as the work done by the members of Education Group for 2015/2016 is totally voluntary work.

  • Organized the first national conference for early childhood
  • Organized a seminar about how to learn Arabic language under the rapid educational changes

Educational Technology Group

It is a voluntary students group belonging to the Education group in college of Education. It  includes a number of those who are interested in the technological side.It aims to educate the community about the relationship between technology and  education, and how we can employ modern technology in teaching and learning processes.

 

 

Group Vision:

To come up with distinct capabilities in employing the latest means of technology to serve the university community, scientific researchand community service according to the comprehensive quality standards. This group seeks to reflect the concept that educational technology is not something isolated or is owned by a single entity, but it is a set of tools that facilitate the process of achieving the tasks and objectives of the  communities.

 

Group Mission:

To continuously build and develop the scientific and technological capabilities through increasing the awareness of the importance of technology as well as employing it in the various life aspects, which will contribute to the achievement desired in all fields.

This is done through the development of appropriate programs that could be applied, managed and used effectively and efficiently to support the processes of learning and teaching. These programs could be workshops, technological forums, research surveys that address the use of technology in education, and other activities that contribute to make a tangible difference in the field of technology and its applications in the educational process.

  1. Due to the fact that Educational Technology Group is seeking to raise the level of awareness among members of the university community about the importance of the use of technology and its various media in education, it tends to make an annual technology forum to achieve the goals of the group.
  2. Each technological forum  focuses on a particular topic and targets a particular audience. The topics of forum are chosen according to the needs of the learners from technological knowledge and skills that are important in their academic and social life. Moreover, technological forums pay more attention to other categories of the society such as school students, teachers, staff and other members of the local community, in order to provide them with new technological information.
  3. During these forums, the most important projects of students majoring in Education Technology and Learning are highlighted, the group's activities and events are shown.
  4. These forums contribute to improving the creativity of students in innovation, leadership and management as it raises the level of responsibility of the participants to achieve the ultimate goal of the group.
  5. To achieve the perfection of knowledge and skills presented in the forums, workshops are done. These workshops aim to teach the participants the technological skills in a particular area, for example, workshops related to design programs are offered. Most of the forum workshops target university students because they are the most people who will benefited from the workshop.
  6. It should be noted that the workshops are conducted continuously during the year and it is not limited for the forums period.

Sports and Society Group

It is one of the effective groups in the Education Group in Sultan Qaboos University. Sports and Society Group seeks to take care of the sports in the university in particular and in the society in general. The ultimate goal of this group is to spread a typical idea of the importance of sports through the events that are done for all people in the society.

  • To acquire hard working skills and skills of serving the society.
  • To enhance the needed values and trends in the society.
  • To invest the free time in doing sports activities that are beneficial and enjoyable. 
  • To serve the ones who are interested in sports.

Tofola Group

It is a newly established group which mainly focuses on childhood. It dedicates its efforts to develop children’s lives, and concentrates on their future as they’re a crucial component of the society. It was established by a group of students from Early Childhood department in the College of Education. This group sheds light on the most important issues related to childhood. It shoulders the responsibility of educating the society about the importance of this phase in the individual’s life. As a matter of fact, this group is one of the very first groups that have given the stage of early childhood this great attention. It strives to present a noble massage to the society in order to develop our beloved country, Oman.

Psychology Group

Psychology group is one of the groups belonging to Education Group in College of Education at Sultan Qaboos University. It was established in 2002 by the virtuous professor / Khawla Al Maamari, a professor at Department of Psychology. The idea of ​​creating this group came out of a noble principle which is to serve the students community at the university and the outside community through the activities carried out by the group voluntarily. This  group seeks to make psychology a tangible reality.

  • To serve the community in first class. The role of the group is not only on campus, but also it has arrived the outside community through the various events that are held by the group outside the university. 
  • To develop the skill of teamwork on the  members through communicating with the outside community and its issues, and working to solve the psychological and social problems facing the community and students.
  • To fully communicate with the various categories of the students community        (people with special needs, autistic, and others). This is so clear through the regular visits undertaken by the Group.
  • The participant should be interested in psychology.

  • The group organizes International Forums. An example for these forums is (Gulf Youth Forum), which was the first forum in the gulf countries under this name. Gulf Youth Forum was adopted in order to be done each two years in one of the gulf countries. 
  • The group annually celebrates the national events of the Sultanate.
  • The group annually does the Psychological Forum on campus and it includes a representation of the psychological problems experienced by the student, the community and the work, and they try to resolve these problems. Also, there are activities associated with this event which are  the open day, seminars,  lecture, the exhibition and closing event.
  • The group celebrates the World and the Arab Children's Day.
  • The group does many of periodic visits to various centers and associations that take care of the disabled.
  •  The group organizes various courses in psychology and human development, which aim to provide the participants with an informed background in the these field, and provide them with the interpersonal skills.
  • Annually, the group celebrates the World and the Gulf  Day of the disabled (inside and outside the university). Also, it celebrates the Day of autism by holding exhibitions, seminars and symposiums.
