The department offers a range of courses. Below is a description of each course:
EDUC 3200 2cr. Introduction to School Administration. (2hrs.Lecture)
This course aims to introduce the student in the College of Education to the basic concepts of school and classroom administration and its main processes. It intends to help students define the different administrative roles and assignments of the school principal and classroom teacher. The course also identifies and analyses the principles of classroom management and discusses the styles of classroom management and the problems that are related to managing the classroom, or resulted from, each of those managing styles. The course also includes some field visits to selected schools in order to give students the chance to see some of the real practices and role of those schools' principals.
EDUC 2004 3cr. Foundations of Education. (3hrs.Lecture)
This course introduces students to educational terms, concepts and theories. It focuses on understanding different schools of educational philosophies, including Islamic philosophy, and their implications on the perception of knowledge and practices in the teaching and learning process. The course develops student’s perceptions and understanding of cotemporary educational issues through exploring the relationship between education and society; and education and culture. It introduces future teachers to the teaching profession by discussing the nature of the profession, professional responsibilities and rights.

This course deals with the concept of curriculum past and present. It covers the definitions and procedures followed in designing, implementing, evaluating and developing Arabic curriculum. The course also covers criteria of selecting and sequencing areas of content and task types of Arabic This course introduces students to educational terms, concepts and theories. It focuses on understanding different schools of educational philosophies, including Islamic philosophy, and their implications on the perception of knowledge and practices in the teaching and learning process. EDUC 3218 3cr. Educational System in Oman and the Gulf States. (3hrs.Lecture)
This course is based on the concept of educational system and its interactions with the other social systems. It focuses on the educational system in Oman and the Arab Gulf States. The course assists students in criticizing the important issues related to the educational system in Oman and its future trends. It also aims at helping students understand the main features of the educational systems in the Arab Gulf area, and the cultural factors that affect and direct them. The course also seeks to help students analyze the different educational reforms in Oman and the Gulf Area.

EDUC 1001 2cr. Educational Trends in the Modern World. (2hrs.Lecture)
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the factors that led to the emergence of new concepts of the school, and to develop his/her awareness of modern concepts in education and their benefits. Also, the course introduces students to the credit hours system at the university, and some related educational formulas. The main content of this course includes: new functions of schools and some contemporary concepts in education such as: equal opportunities, continuing education, self-learning, guidance and supervision in higher education, the credit hour system. In addition to this, the course also discusses non-traditional systems in higher education, such as: distance education and open university. Lecture, dialogue and debate are used in teaching this course. There is no pre-requisite for this course.
EDUC 1002 3cr Prominent Arab and Muslim Educationists. (3hrs. Lecture)
The aim of this course is to develop students’ spirit of pride to Muslim and Arab scholars mentioned in the thoughts of traditional heritage of Islamic civilization. Also the course seeks to deepen students’ understanding of concepts, principles and educational issues mentioned in those scholars’ great books. The course introduces students to some outstanding Arab and Muslims scholars in the different history stages, such as: Abo Hamid Al-Gazali, Ibn Khaldun, Al-Qasibi, Al-Zarnuji, Abdul Hameed Bin Badis, Mohammed Abdo, Ismaeil Kabani, Tah Huseen, and Sati’e Al-Hussary. Some of the teaching techniques and methods used in this course are: Lecture, dialogue and debate. There is no pre-requisite for this course.
